About

I am Robin Fitton and started to write the Gruntz rules in June 2010.  After almost 30 years in gaming I decided to finally put pen to paper and draw on my various roleplaying, wargaming and boardgame influences to create my own set of rules.   They are intended to be fun, aimed at a skirmish level, played on a small or large area and adaptable.

Gruntz is not a big business it is just me and a crowd of friends and Gruntz yahoo group members who have helped refine and playtest the rules. I don't have the backing of a big organisation or publisher so all the work is a labour of love.

I will be 40 in 2011 and have two kids aged 11 and 13. I have been working in IT for 20 years and I am the Head of an IT department in the travel industry.

Grunts is a dedicated 15mm fast play wargame designed for skirmish level play with between 10 to 40 figures per side using combined arms (squads, support vehicles, tanks, VTOL's and artillery). You can use miniatures from any 15mm SCI-FI manufacturer. It is based around a generic platoon level battle, not restricted to a set genre or background setting. Vehicle and artillery rules are included for a combined arms gaming experience with statistics provided for all manufacturers of 15mm sci-fi and modern figures.

Grunts has manufacturer support from Ground Zero Games (GZG), 15mm.co.uk, Khurasan, Rebel Minis, Brigade and Old Crow Models. The full range of figures are supported by the Grunts rules including but not limited to specialist robotic, alien and air support.

The rules and statistics in Grunts cover modern and futuristic technology, allowing for low tech and high tech mixed battles. The system includes statistics for alien technology and weird war style creatures like zombies and B-Movie style gargantuan lizard monsters, so most modern and futuristic settings can be played.

Grunts only uses D6 die for all rolling and the core mechanic is based around a 2D6 roll adding a number from the models statistics and to succeed at a task you must beat a certain target number. For example if you wanted a unit of grunts to shoot at another unit, you add the Shoot statistic of the grunts firing to your 2D6 roll and must equal or exceed the ToHit statistic of the target model. For most actions you modify the roll depending on certain conditions.

Initiative is based on a standard turn sequence or you can use an optional playing card based initiative which adds a series of special conditions for any Ace cards drawn and assigned to units. The card based turn sequence introduces a chaotic feel to the battlefield.

There are also a set of 26 game tokens for Grunts which are available to purchase as a single pack. They are ideal for marking Waxed (dead) Grunts and the various conditions in the game like Suppressed.

In the pipeline is a full Grunts web based army builder, written with database technology to enable players to create and share stats with a points system.
